We are all dependent on animal and plant life in our oceans remaining healthy and continuing to flourish. Issues relating to the marine environment are subject to strict rules and regulations. JOWA’s products are approved and recommended by a large number of leading authorities in marine legislation. JOWA is one of the leaders in the business area of environmentally friendly equipment and has strong research and development credentials. We collaborate with respected academic institutions in order to maintain our position at the forefront of the latest industrial developments and to meet the growing competition in the market.



Initially, our company was called AB Brunnshygien and carried out analyses of well water. These analyses were carried out in the 1950s at Svenska Miljöskyddsbyrån, a company still active today but no longer in the field of water analysis.


Some years later, AB Brunnshygien became JOWA AB, based on the names of the two owners Jowén and Wallentin. JOWA began to sell OWS Bilge separators (MARPOL 73/78) to Götaverken, Kockums and other shipyards in Sweden in the 1970s.


With the decline of the Swedish shipbuilding industry JOWA focused on the export market in Denmark, Norway, Germany and the Netherlands. The strategy paid off and JOWA grew steadily from year to year.


When Jan Seehuusen took over the company in 1992, our business expanded to the rest of the world. New markets emerged  in Japan, USA, Singapore and China.

JOWA Shanghai – We were one of the first European companies to establish an office in China. Today JOWA Shanghai has a very good and strong business relationship with many of the Chinese shipyards. JOWA Shanghai’s strengths are strong technical support and after sale service.


JOWA GERMANY GmbH was founded in 1996 as a part of JOWA GROUP. JOWA Germany team is built up by experienced marine engineers and dedicated experts ensuring individual needs by our customers. Based on this collective and its close cooperation JOWA GERMANY GmbH creates visions that leads each project to maximum success.


JOWA Shanghai – the first factory abroad.  


JOWA USA is the North American distributor of JOWA AB Products. Jowa USA (formerly Metritape, Inc.) headquartered in Littleton, Massachusetts has provided reliable liquid level gauging products to customers worldwide since 1965 for industrial, municipal and marine applications. JOWA USA is committed to providing cost-effective, reliable and low-maintenance level gauging solutions and with over 25,000 units, commonly known as Metritape, installed throughout the world, the Metritape is a proven success with high user acceptance and customer loyalty.


JOWA Holland was founded in Barendrecht, Rotterdam, which is the No 1 port of Europe. Due to good stock facilities JOWA Holland offers quick deliveries (same day or day after). JOWA Holland’s strenghts above all are short distances to different ports, good logistic department and service engineers with great knowledge.


JOWA Shaoxing – A new and larger manufacturing plant in Shaoxing (about 200 km South of Shanghai).



JOWA Korea – the third factory abroad. Closed 2016. Today our business continues in key-market Korea via our agent Hyundai A1 Corporation!


JOWA Hellas in Greece is a key service point for Eastern Mediterranean region.


Today JOWA has about 135 employees world wide with HQ located in Kållered, Sweden. We have 8 subsidiaries and 23 agents. JOWA AB (HQ) in Sweden has around 30 employees – this includes the product development group, which is tasked with developing cutting edge technology for electronic and mechanical production, as well shipping, receiving, purchasing and sales and marketing. All our personnel feel a keen sense of responsibility for ensuring that everything functions at every stage of the process through final assembly, testing and the products delivery.

Because of the qualified environmental products we develop, manufacture and sell, all our activities are guided by consideration for the environment. For us, the environment in our factories is very important. With this in mind, our head office and factory in Sweden is ISO 9000 & ISO 14001 certified in accordance with BV. The Shanghai office’s engineering workshop has been ISO 9000 certified by CCS.
